"When I first came to Nashville in 1998, I wrote with legendary songwriter/musician Phil Madeira. On a lunch break, he played me a demo of 'If I Was Jesus' in his car on the way to Starbucks. I instantly fell in love with the song, and particularly the lyric. Ten years later, I got a chance to record it for myself. I love how down-to-earth the lyric is and yet how it cuts to the heart and does not stray from biblical truth. I've always been interested in getting to the bottom line about Jesus. I don't want a distant ethereal faith or relationship with Jesus. This song really helps me in that it's simple and plain and relatable and yet the chorus hits the bottom line perfectly.
